Pahalgam Valley River

5 days, 4 nights

Pahalgam and the Lidder Valley

Five days on one river, without moving hotels every night

The trip

What this is

A slower trip for people who would rather know one valley well than see six from the road. You base near the Lidder for three nights, with Srinagar at either end, and spend your days walking, sitting by the water, and going only as far as you feel like.

Best for. Couples and families who want mountains and a river within walking distance and are happy to skip the checklist.

Highlights

  • Three nights in the same place, so you can actually unpack
  • A walk from Aru toward Lidderwat with a packed lunch
  • The quiet far bank of the river, away from the pony trails
  • A slow first and last day on Dal Lake
  • Autumn colour in the valley if you travel in October

Day by day

The itinerary

A working outline. We move nights around, add or drop a day, and adjust for weather once we know your dates.

  1. 01Srinagar

    Arrive in Srinagar

Airport pick-up and a quiet afternoon on the lake. A shikara ride toward evening if you have the energy.

Houseboat or hotel on Dal or Nigeen
  2. 02Aru or Pahalgam

    Drive to the Lidder valley

A morning drive up to Pahalgam and on to Aru. The afternoon is for a short walk from the door to get your bearings.

Hotel or guesthouse in Aru or Pahalgam
  3. 03Aru

    A longer walk from Aru

Walk up the valley toward the Lidderwat meadow, as far as you want to go, and turn back when it suits you. Nothing else planned.

A short trip to Betaab valley in the morning, then the afternoon by the Lidder on the quieter bank above Pahalgam.

Worth knowing before you book

  • Aru has a handful of small places to stay and they fill up. Booking early matters here.
  • The walk on day three is at your own pace and needs only decent shoes, not trekking gear.
  • If you would rather stay in Pahalgam town for more choice of food and rooms, that works too.

Questions

We are not walkers. Is this trip still worth it?

Yes, but tell us when you book. We can keep the walking to short, flat stretches by the river and spend more time sitting still in good spots, which is half the point of Pahalgam anyway.

Aru or Pahalgam town?

Aru is smaller, quieter and better for walking from the door. Pahalgam town has more rooms, more places to eat, and easier access to Betaab and Chandanwari. We are happy either way.
