Kashmir in Twelve Days
Srinagar and Dal Lake · Gulmarg · Pahalgam and the Lidder Valley

The place
Doodhpathri and Yusmarg are the meadows people go to when they want an easy day out of Srinagar and would rather skip the busier hill stations. Both are grassland, stream and pine, on the western edge of the valley. Doodhpathri is the greener and wider of the two, with the Shaliganga running through it. Yusmarg is smaller and closer, backed by higher peaks.
Neither needs an overnight. They pair well with a relaxed Srinagar itinerary rather than a packed one.
Walk along the Shaliganga, find a spot in the open meadow, and have a packed lunch. There are few facilities, which is the point.
Easy trails lead from the Yusmarg meadow toward Nilnag lake and the edge of the forest. Half a day is enough.
The roads out to both pass through orchard country and villages that see very few visitors, which is half the interest of the trip.
By road from Srinagar. Doodhpathri is about 45 km through Budgam and takes around two hours. Yusmarg is closer, about 40 km, and quicker. Both roads are fine for a normal car in summer and can be cut off after heavy snow in winter.
There is very little accommodation at either, and no reason to stay. Base yourself in Srinagar and visit for the day.
Trips
If you have an extra day in Srinagar and want a quiet meadow without the crowds and commerce of Gulmarg or Pahalgam, yes. If your trip is already full, they are easy to skip.
It is possible but rushed, since they are on slightly different routes out of the city. One meadow, a slow afternoon, and back is the better plan.
